‘Ontologies of Touch’ explores the idea that knowledge, identity, and meaning emerge not solely through language or representation, but through tactile, material engagement with the world.

Clay – earthbound, elemental, responsive – becomes more than a medium; it is a thinking partner, a surface of encounter, and a site of resistance and resonance. Each work is a record of embodied negotiation, a moment where matter and maker are mutually transformed. Through touch, gesture, and process, the artists engage with clay as a vibrant actor in its own right—pressing, collapsing, hardening, cracking, holding memory, and defying certainty.

This exhibition proposes that to touch is to know—and that clay, in its mutable vitality, offers a unique ontology: one that is not fixed, but fluid; not imposed, but discovered through relational practice.

‘Ontologies of Touch’ invites viewers into an intimate encounter with works that bear the marks of both intention and surrender, control and collaboration—reminding us that matter is never mute, and that the hand is always in dialogue with what it shapes.

POSTCARDS FROM THE MONSOON BELT – SOUTHEAST ASIA AND INDIA IAC MEMBERS

In an age of instant images, the postcard endures through its slowness… handled, stamped, carried, arrived; bearing fingerprints of elsewhere.
More than half the world’s people have organised their lives around the monsoon. We have planted by it, prayed for it, grieved its lateness and celebrated its return. It is not merely meteorological. It is a shared cultural consciousness.
We, the artists of the monsoon belt, come from many countries and many traditions. Our languages differ. Our gods wear different faces. Yet we share this sky.
Clay, too, is a creature of water; without it, formless and inert. The potter who works the wheel understands what the farmer knows watching the sky: everything depends on the right moisture at the right moment.
More than twenty-five artists now travel to Jingdezhen, carrying objects as evidence. Each piece a metaphoric postcard. Each postcard a form of belonging; not to one nation, but to a season.

THROW OUT BRICKS TO ATTRACT JADE – WORLD CERAMIC FROM MINIATURES TO UNESCO CULTURAL HERITAGES

This exhibition is a celebration of ceramic heritage on a global scale, uniting two distinct yet complementary forms of cultural documentation. At its heart is an extraordinary philatelic project by a diverse group of IAC members: a proposed UNESCO Memory of the World collection titled “Global Ceramic Heritage Stamps.” This archive of thousands stamps from more than 180 countries and regions tells the story of ceramics through the miniature art of the postage stamp.

To bring this narrative to life in three dimensions, we have paired these stamps with actual ceramic pieces sourced recognized by UNESCO for their Intangible Cultural Heritage from ten or eleven countries, they are Chile, China, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, Romania, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. We invite you to explore this unique confluence of art and history, and to join us in honoring the timeless craft that connects us all.

LATIN AMERICA: TERRITORY AND CERAMICS – LATIN AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN IAC MEMBERS

Latin America and the Caribbean present in Jingdezhen a reflection on how geography profoundly shapes our ceramic practices. This vast territory, of deserts, jungles, mountain ranges, and coastlines, not only defines landscapes, but also the people and their ways of inhabiting, perceiving, and creating.

The works emerge from an intimate relationship with their environment. Clays, pigments, and minerals, specific to each territory, shape both the technical processes and formal decisions. Thus, surfaces, colors, forms, and structures evoke the geographical configuration, biodiversity, and the power of the landscape, where nature acts as an active agent.

Added to this is a rich cultural heritage: pre-Hispanic traditions engage in dialogue with colonial and contemporary influences, giving rise to hybrid languages and characters. Each country constructs its identity through this convergence.

The exhibition proposes a journey through this diversity: a constellation of voices in which territory, memory, and culture are transformed into material and narrative.

BREAKING THROUGH THE EARTH EXHIBITION

The exhibition is jointly organized by the School of Architecture, Southeast University (SEU), and Longquan Wang’ou Art Center. It takes “clay,” a fundamental material essential to our existence, as a connecting point for reflection. It shows ceramic art in architecture, ceramic sculptures and installations in public spaces, as well as the artistic application of ceramic materials by architects and the unique charm of rammed earth architecture, presenting a grander narrative about clay.

The exhibition is divided into four sections. The exhibits encompass ceramic artworks, architectural ceramic components, photographic archives, and videos, systematically presenting research on clay materials within the context of architectural and landscape art, experiments in ceramic techniques, design innovations, and artistic creations. It highlights the collaborative efforts among ceramic artisans/craftsman, ceramic artists, and architects.
