IAC Special Residencies Project in conjunction with the 2026 IAC Congress

Special Residencies Project

The most effective way to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation is to enable people from all over the globe to work side by side for a set period of time.

Chinese ceramic history and industry encompass a wide range of specificities, establishing China as a unique destination in the ceramic world. Due to Jingdezhen’s — and more broadly China’s — exceptional status in ceramics, as well as the numerous facilities dedicated to hosting artists in residence, the IAC has developed a special initiative proposed by Jacques Kaufmann, allowing its members to work in China and exhibit in Jingdezhen in the lead-up to the 2026 IAC Congress.

Seven residency centers across China have enthusiastically agreed to participate in this landmark initiative. Following review by a selection committee, 60 artist members of the IAC were chosen to work for 2.5 to 3 months, from March/April to June 2026, culminating in an exhibition presenting works created by each artist during their residency.

The promotion of peace through intercultural collaboration is at the heart of the IAC’s mission. A dedicated section entitled “Clay for Peace” will present collaborative works created during the residencies by IAC members working together, or with Chinese IAC members or local artists in the same locations and during the same period. This section will be included in the IAC International Residencies Exhibition at the Taoxichuan Art Museum.
